| Orangeburg Consolidated School District Four – held it’s first Character Education Steering Committee Meeting at the Kuckery in Orangeburg on December 13, 2001. The Steering Committee is comprised of a representative from each of the schools in District Four. The objectives of the meeting were threefold: 1. Generate enthusiasm for a PreK - 12 Character Education Program, 2. Share ideas, and 3. Work on suggestions for the Orangeburg County February Character Trait—Compassion.
The Steering Committee discussed the increasing importance of providing Character Education at all grade levels. It was pointed out that, “Even though Character is not an item on the State Mandated Testing Program, it is essential for the success of the students and the schools.”
The Orangeburg Consolidated School District Four School Board strongly supports Character Education in the Schools and has a resolution and a policy, which addresses Character Education. This support has encouraged all of the schools in District Four to participate in the Orangeburg County Character Trait of the Month program, and other activities designed by the individual schools. Some of the school level activities include daily character announcements over the intercoms, character bulletin boards and marquees, and character coupons and certificates for the students.
Several of the schools in Orangeburg Consolidated School District Four participated in the President Bush’s program for raising money for the Children in Afghanistan. This activity has raised a sizable sum of money through the unselfish and caring contributions of students, parents, and school district personnel.
